Dessy Boneva MD, FACS, is a graduate of University of Health Sciences Antigua in Antigua & Barbuda. Her postgraduate training includes a research fellowship at Baltimore VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD (2003-2004), followed by a first general surgery residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD (2004-2006) and a second general surgery residency at Dartmouth College (2006-2009). Dr. Boneva is fellowship-trained in surgical critical care at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2009-2010) and trauma and acute care surgery at the University of Maryland/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland (2010-2011). Dr. Boneva completed her undergraduate education in mathematics and engineering in her native country, Bulgaria. She attained board certification in general surgery and surgical critical care with the American Board of Surgery. Furthermore, she is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She remains an active member of the Pan-American Trauma Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
